Enterprise Portals

Recent advances in portal technology allow companies to unify disparate information and applications based on the role each individual plays in an organization. Most people interact with a combination of SAP and non-SAP applications, reporting tools, shared spreadsheets and documents, intranets and the internet to perform their responsibilities. The portal organizes and provides integrated access (using single sign on functionality) to these areas through a centralized interface.

Our experience in R/3, BW and SEM data and reporting enables us to evaluate the appropriate and most effective sources of SAP data for portal technologies. The objectives are to:

Leverage the existing application systems’ functionalities where possible to establish a low cost and highly integrated solution;
Align management and executive portals with the company’s performance management framework. For example, the Key Performance Indicators on the Performance Dashboard should support the business strategies and support additional drill-down (if needed);
Ensure data from various sources are complementary and do not create confusion;
Utilize semi-customizable pre-configured views where possible in order to ensure low maintenance cost;
Define a long-term strategy that defines potential migration of existing applications to increase the effectiveness of the portal over time.
